What Is Mud Jacking?

When your concrete patio, driveway, sidewalks and concrete steps settle and sink, they tend to crack and create uneven walking surfaces. Not only is sunken concrete an eyesore, it can create potentially dangerous tripping hazards which can be a liability for home and business owners.

We can fix your uneven concrete with a process called mud jacking.

What is Mud Jacking?

Mud jacking is a concrete repair process for raising concrete slabs with a mortar-based mixture. With mud jacking, we pump a mortar-based mixture underneath the sinking slab. Our mixture consists of water, soil, sand and cement that once cured, becomes a solid, stable fill.

As the mixture is pumped under the settling concrete slab, it fills voids and pushes the concrete slab upward. Once inserted, the slurry mixture will harden producing a solid, more stable foundation than soil, and a lighter substance that the foundation concrete.

Mud jacking acts as a fast, effective and minimally invasive alternative to concrete removal and replacement. This will in turn, save you money, limit interruptions to the use of the affected area, and prolong the life of your concrete structure.

When is mud jacking NOT appropriate?

  • Mud jacking is ideal for heavier concrete structures, especially when used in tandem with slab piers. Mud jacking should not be used as an alternative for foundation repair for a building structure.
  • Mud jacking should not be used when a concrete slab supports partition walls or additional structures.

Let Mud Jacking To The Professionals

Mud jacking requires special equipment and years of professional experience to be done accurately and correctly. Our trained mud jacking experts not only know the mud jacking process, but they know local soil conditions and how they react in the Gulf Coast Weather.

Mud jacking is effective for heavier concrete structures when used in conjunction with slab piers. It should not be considered as a standalone solution to lifting a footing or floor slab that has settled in your home.

In most cases, mud jacking alone will not be able to lift both a slab and the heavy partition walls that sit on top of it. In cases where mud jacking isn’t effective, we often recommend installing slab piers instead.

If mud jacking does lift the concrete slab, it may be difficult to control where mud jacking lifts the walls, causing them to lift unevenly.
